Celtic have been linked with a move for Filip Benkovic.
According to Croatian website 100 Posto Celtic have representatives have been in Croatia discussing a move for the Dinamo Zagreb defender.
Benkovic stepped into the Dinamo Zagreb side when Jozo Simunovic moved to Celtic two years ago with Croatia regarded as one of the best, and least expensive markets in football.
Since Rivaldo Coetzee’s proposed transfer from Ajax Cape Town to Celtic broke down on Saturday following a medical the hoops have been linked with a number of central defenders- while Simunovic and Erik Sviatchenko have been linked with moves away.
Filip Benkovic could leave the club. The best defender of Dinamo has long been on Celtic’s goal that is ready to downgrade his club record in the buyout. Celtic representatives are allegedly in Zagreb and negotiations are under way. It sounded incredible when Jozo Simunovic left, so it did happen. Celtic obviously wants to have Dinamo’s last line.
A fee of 17m euros was mentioned for Benkovic in January but a more realistic fee with a substantial sell-on clause could see business completed before tonight’s midnight transfer deadline.
Negotiations to sign Simunovic were lengthy but having come to an agreement for that transfer the blue print for a fresh transfer between the two clubs is already in place.
