Frank Lampard believes that Patrick Roberts is in the perfect place to develop into an England internationalist.
The Chelsea legend saw Brendan Rodgers at close quarters in his Chelsea days with the Irishman going on to manage at Swansea, Liverpool and Celtic.
During the summer there was barely an English voice suggesting that Roberts should return to Celtic with clubs like Southampton and Nice keen on the England u-20 internationalist.
After one season working under Rodgers the former Fulham kid knew where his career would be best developed.
On Wednesday night in Brussels a much larger audience got to see how Roberts’ game is advancing with the on loan winger popping up with Celtic’s second goal in a thrilling victory.
After watching the Anderlecht game for BT Sport Lampard said: “He looks a really good young player, out on loan learning his trade and it’s perfect that he is under Brendan Rodgers.
“He’s a great player, Scot Sinclair is the type of player that Brendan loves. They are good to watch, they try to play the right way and it was a good result.â€
Celtic’s double header against Bayern Munich will put Roberts and Scott Sinclair back in the England spotlight following the disappointment of the 5-0 loss to Bayern Munich.
Neither player is likely to be brought in to Gareth Southgate’s international plans but strong performances against the Germans will put some pressure on the players currently in the England squad.
